A 50 percent reduction in accumulated traffic fines will be effective from April 18
18 Apr 2024
NewsStarting on Thursday, April 18, the General Directorate of Traffic began enforcing a royal edict that requires a 50% reduction in accrued traffic fines. This is in compliance with the orders of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman, as well as Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
All infractions committed prior to April 18, 2024 are eligible for the reduction, and in order to take advantage of it, all accrued traffic penalties must be paid within six months of April 18 through October 18, 2024. The discount permits the payment of fines in full or in installments for each infraction. By lowering fines for all infractions up to the day before the reduction period starts, this historic effort aims to lessen the financial burden on citizens, foreign nationals, tourists, and GCC citizens.
As per the Ministry of Interior's enforcement of the royal order, individuals who commit any of four particular crimes during the reduction time will not be eligible to get the discount. Drifting, operating a vehicle while under the influence of narcotics or other prohibited substances, and exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h on highways with a 120 km/h speed restriction or more than 30 km/h on roads with a 140 km/h speed limit are among these infractions.
According to the Traffic Directorate, transgressions made after April 18 will be subject to article 75 of the Traffic Law, which offers a 25% discount on infractions done on their own. If the fee is not paid after the objection period and the legally mandated payment deadline passes, Article 75 requires incarceration and enforcement.
The directorate stated that the payment for traffic violations occurs automatically through the Efaa platform and the SADAD payment system, but cautioned against interacting with any dubious links, calls, or websites that purport to provide the service.
