A cultural renaissance is set to unfold with the imminent opening of the Saudi Museum for Modern Art in JAX

A cultural revival is about to take place in the centre of Diriyah with the upcoming launch of the Saudi Museum for Modern Art in JAX. This cultural sanctuary is a demonstration of the Ministry of Culture's steadfast dedication to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, serving as a critical step in the promotion of modern art and the empowerment of artists in the Kingdom. With the help of the Quality of Life Programme, the museum becomes a vibrant venue that promotes best practises and displays modern art. It seeks to act as a thriving hub for the Kingdom's emerging contemporary art scene, offering a venue for discussion, expression, and artistic inquiry.

The International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South (BIENALSUR) will be held in conjunction with the grand opening of this transforming site. This international show, titled "Imagine Fantasy, Dreams and Utopia," debuted in Buenos Aires in July and includes over 400 artists from 27 different countries, 10 of which are from the Kingdom. The exhibition aims to take viewers on a trip between myth and reality, questioning their understanding of location and sparking their imagination.

The Ministry of Culture's decision to host BIENALSUR for a third time demonstrates its dedication to showcasing cutting edge contemporary art practises and enhancing Saudi Arabia's creative and cultural milieu. It is consistent with the Ministry's overarching goal of promoting cross-cultural interchange, which is a strategic goal that is in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The Saudi Museum for Modern Art's opening in JAX is a first step towards the creation of a significant cultural organisation in Diriyah. The Ministry of Culture plans to establish the first contemporary art museum in the Kingdom in partnership with the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. The expansive facility will rank among the biggest in terms of both size and on-display art collections.

By having a permanent art collection, the upcoming museum in Diriyah will enhance the one in JAX. In the meanwhile, the JAX museum will take the stage, presenting a variety of cultural and creative activities in addition to three transient art exhibits a year. When combined, these two cultural icons have the power to completely alter the field of art, offering a blank canvas on which new and contemporary works of art may be created and adding to Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage.
