NewsAl Mashaaer Train greatly enhances pilgrims' experience by establishing and coordinating the transportation of travellers between the sacred places. More than 2,000 journeys are prepared by the railroad to make it easier for pilgrims to get to and from their destinations. There are nine stations in the train network, which are spaced among the sacred locations and are linked by an 18-kilometer double railway line. The train can go from Mina to Arafat at 80 km/h in about 20 minutes. There are 17 trains in the Holy Sites rail fleet, and each can hold 3,000 people.
The Holy Sites Train can accommodate 72,000 passengers per hour when all seats are occupied, which accounts for 20% of the entire passenger capacity. During Hajj, it makes it easier for over 350,000 pilgrims to travel between the many Holy Sites.
In order to handle the high volume of passengers, the stops are designed with ease of movement in mind for pilgrims as they approach, board, and get off the train. Both the boarding platform and the departure platform are isolated from the waiting area and boarding area, respectively. The stations have ramps for transportation from the station platform and connecting bridges for passengers moving to the ground level from the opposite side.
Additionally, pilgrims may enter and depart more easily with the use of electric lifts, which are especially useful for the elderly and those with impairments. With 60 doors on each side of the train, which matches the number of doors at the stations, pilgrims may enter and depart the train with ease.
During the Hajj season, the rail system takes over 50,000 passenger buses off the road, which lessens traffic and lowers carbon emissions. Its zero carbon emissions make it an eco-friendly electric train that contributes to the preservation of the environment around the Holy Sites.
