The Saudi Arabia's National team's defender Yasser Al-Shahrani underwent the second stage of the surgery, which has been completed successfully. The Saudi national team said in a statement on its Twitter account that Al-Shahrani underwent the second stage of surgical intervention on Sunday, after his condition stabilized according to the medical plan prescribed for him. The surgery was for his face bones, and it was carried out by a specialized medical team in King Abdulaziz Medical City at the National Guard, and with follow-up from the medical team of the Saudi national team.

Al-Shahrani, after he flew to Riyadh from the Hamad Medical City in Doha, underwent an emergency surgery in the pancreas, following the horrific injury during Saudi Arabia's historic match against Argentina in the World Cup on Tuesday.

Al-Shahrani sustained serious injuries after his collision with Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais during their historic 2-1 win over Argentina on Tuesday and had reportedly suffered a fractured jaw, broken left facial bones, teeth damage, and internal bleeding. The incident happened when Al-Owais had come out to grab the ball, and accidentally kneed Al-Shahrani to his face.

Al-Shahrani was eventually stretchered off and gave the thumbs up to the crowd as he left, but the extent of his injuries was revealed once he got to Hamad Medical City and was advised surgery to stop internal bleeding.
