AlUla is now a part of the International Institute for Management Development's 2025 IMD World Smart Cities Index, which also includes five other Saudi cities: Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar.
Saudi Arabia's ambitious plans to establish AlUla as a smart heritage, cultural, and tourism destination, where contemporary technologies enhanced by artificial intelligence have been used to preserve archaeological sites, have led to the city's inclusion in the Smart Cities Index for the first time this year.
