NewsEng. Abdulrahman Al-Fadhly, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, stated that a plentiful supply of basic food items will be made accessible during the next Hajj season. This was mentioned by the minister, who also serves as the head of the Committee for Food Security, on Sunday in Riyadh while presiding over the Committee for Basic Food Commodities' regular meeting.
The meeting went over the most recent developments in terms of ensuring a plentiful supply of food commodities locally, as well as stock sizes, the operation of local and external supply chains, and the steps taken to guarantee the continuity of a plentiful supply of food during the Hajj season.
Al-Fadhly, who addressed the gathering, said that all the relevant authorities in the food security system were working continuously to monitor the execution of the wise leadership's directives in order to ensure an abundant supply as well as to strengthen local stocks of essential food commodities and support their ongoing stocks in the local markets. He noted that more pilgrims will perform the Hajj this year than in the previous three years, which were adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. "There has been coordination and joint efforts of the concerned authorities, including the private sector, in preparation for the next Hajj season," he said.
The minister commended the efforts made by those in charge of the food security system as well as the contribution made by the private sector to ensuring the security and availability of the food supply for all goods on the local market.
Members of the committee, including those from the Ministries of Finance, Commerce, Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing, as well as the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the Foreign Trade Authority, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the General Authority for Food Security, and the Agricultural Development Ministry, attended the meeting.
