Designs for the second terminal of AlUla International Airport were unveiled by officials

During the Future Investment Initiative conference, representatives from the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate revealed the designs for the second terminal of AlUla International Airport, according to a Saturday article from the Saudi Press Agency. The designs are intended to blend in with the surrounding natural and cultural elements while also reflecting the historic site's long history of urban development. They are a crucial addition to the airport project and its development ambitions, having been unveiled following a global competition that drew together prominent design groups.

The governorate wants to establish AlUla into a global logistics centre in the northwest of the Kingdom by improving aviation connection to several local and international destinations. The airport, which became an international airport in March 2021, will be able to handle 6 million passengers annually thanks to the planned extension. Currently, it only handles 400,000 passengers annually.

Additionally, the airport will grow to a total size of around 2.4 million square metres. A hotel, a spa, and other amenities that will improve guests' experiences are all part of the expansion features incorporated into the new design for AlUla. The expansions are backed by a state-of-the-art technical infrastructure and equipment that complies with international standards, and they combine with the biggest open museum globally.

The commission is preparing for the anticipated increase in air travel to the region as a popular worldwide destination. It preserves the governorate's identity and emphasises its civilizational, cultural, and natural features while being consistent with AlUla's vision and Vision 2030's goals.

AlUla International Airport has seen several initiatives throughout the years to enhance passenger service and offer amenities to AlUla residents and tourists.
