According to an amendment to Saudi Arabia's Traffic Law, it is now illegal to drive a car on the road with an expired license plate (istimara). King Salman, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, presided over the Cabinet meeting in Riyadh on Tuesday, and it authorized a change to the Traffic Law in this area.
Article 71 of the Traffic Law has been repealed in accordance with the modification. According to Article 71, the maximum penalty for failing to renew a driver's license and vehicle registration (istimara) is SR300, and the penalty is set at SR100 for each year or portion of a year. After sixty days from the license's expiration date, the fine will be assessed.
