Given that a US company has been the first to receive official approval to provide drone delivery services in Saudi Arabia, the service is anticipated to launch later this year.
The first operator to be granted permission to operate its M2 drone in Saudi Arabia is Matternet, a California-based business that develops commercial drone delivery systems for urban and suburban settings.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia approved the M2 after concluding that the US-issued Federal Aviation Administration Type Certification complied with GACA airworthiness requirements.
According to the business, in September 2022, its M2 drone delivery system became the first to receive FAA Type Certification.
In Saudi Arabia, the delivery industry has flourished recently. Official statistics show that over 200 million delivery operations were carried out in the kingdom in 2023.
