The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) was given a licence by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) that allows it to offer meteorological services in the area of air navigation. Dr. Ayman Ghulam, CEO of NCM, received the licence from GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej. This comes after determining that the NCM has complied with the Executive Regulations' (GACAR Part 179) criteria for service quality and safety.
The GACA's efforts to ensure service providers' commitment to implementing the highest safety standards, in accordance with its executive regulations and standard rules issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), are strengthened by the fact that the licence is the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The licence was granted by the authority in an effort to maintain the highest standards of quality and safety in the aviation industry, as well as to consolidate the authority's regulatory and supervisory role, achieve regional leadership, and implement the best global practises.
It is noteworthy that the GACA is developing the National Air Navigation Plan, which will establish the course for the Saudi aviation industry's integrated and comprehensive progress by foreseeing future difficulties like drones, advanced urban air transportation, airspace capacity, and performance-based navigation. Through various packages of infrastructure upgrades and regulatory frameworks for human competences, it is aiming to overcome these difficulties in order to guarantee the Kingdom's civil aviation activities continue to develop sustainably.
