NewsIn honour of the holy month of Ramadan, the King Abdulaziz Public Library will present an exhibition of rare, ornate, and gilded Qur'ans on Thursday. The King Abdulaziz Historical Centre at the Al-Murabba branch of the library will host the event. As part of its attempts to honour religious and national holidays, the library is showcasing rare treasures.
There will be more than 350 Qur'ans on display from the library's collection, including versions from earlier ages that have been elaborately gilded and ornamented. By showcasing the creative processes employed in creating the borders around the surahs and verses of the Qur'an, they exemplify the principles and beauty of Islamic ornamental arts.
The Qur'ans on display at the exhibition include calligraphy in the scripts of Sham, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, and Naskh, Kufi, Thuluth, Timbuktu, and Sudanese, among other beautiful calligraphic styles.
