RIYADH: On Thursday, the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language launched the Camel Lexicon, a comprehensive compilation of authentic information regarding camels in the Arabic language.
According to Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, the secretary-general of KSGAAL, the Camel Lexicon is part of the academy's ongoing efforts in the field of lexicography. The resource provides an extensive linguistic collection, encompassing terms and expressions unique to camels, such as their breeds, descriptions, species, colors, life stages, as well as the diseases and defects they may face.
The lexicon also includes distinctive markings, along with idioms, proverbs, stories, tales, and poetry connected to camels, with the aim of preserving these elements from fading or becoming distorted over time.
The Camel Lexicon is designed to support researchers and individuals interested in accessing accurate and dependable information on this subject. It will play an important role in safeguarding the linguistic and cultural heritage associated with camels by documenting the terminology and expressions used by Arabs throughout history. Additionally, it aims to preserve and transmit this rich legacy to future generations.
This new lexicon highlights the academy’s strategic role in supporting key sectors and serves as the primary reference for the Arabic language in the Kingdom. Al-Washmi further noted that the academy has previously released a series of specialized lexicons.
