National Center of Meteorology launched mechanism for dealing with updated weather phenomena with early warning

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) created an automated system to cope with updated meteorological phenomena and provide early warning. The new process contained warning phase classifications that were implemented in accordance with the finest worldwide standards and practises, with warnings classified as yellow, orange, or red. This implies that the potential of the region being impacted by weather phenomena is issued prior to a period of 6-12 hours or more from the influence of weather phenomena, based on particular criteria for each colour.

The mechanism addresses all meteorological phenomena that may impact the Kingdom's environment, such as light to medium and heavy rainfall, dust storms, fog, strong winds, high waves, cold waves, heat waves, light to moderate snowfall, or severe snow storms. It is worth noting that the upgraded system was launched last month in Riyadh by Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of NCM, Eng. Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli. The inauguration event was held in the presence of crisis management experts.

The mechanism considers the best practises, technologies, and outputs that provide all services to beneficiaries from all segments, in order to achieve an integrated work that contributes to saving lives and property, as well as increasing the educational and awareness role for all members of society regarding weather phenomena and ways to deal with them before, during, and after their occurrence.
