OPDC has revealed masterplan for a new adventure tourism destination - THE RIG, poised to revolutionize tourism industry

The Public Investment Fund (PIF) subsidiary Oil Park Development Company (OPDC) has unveiled its expansive concept for THE RIG, a new adventure tourist destination that is set to transform the travel and tourism sector. This programme, which was unveiled on Wednesday through an OPDC news release, is in line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 objectives to boost tourism, create employment, draw in investments, and diversify the country's economy.

Raed Bakhrji, CEO OF THE RIG., described the project's expansive dimensions. It is located 40 km offshore in the Arabian Gulf, close to Al Juraid Island and the Berri Oil Field, and spans more than 300,000 square metres. By 2032, THE RIG expects to welcome over 900,000 people annually and serves a wide range of travellers, from adventure seekers and thrill-seekers to those looking for a relaxing or well-rounded vacation.

The project includes an amazing assortment of amenities, such as helipads, an extreme sports and adventure park, 11 restaurants, three hotels totaling 800 rooms, and a world-class marina. A wide variety of water-based activities will also be available at THE RIG, including an immersive theatre, an E-sports centre, a splash park, a diving centre, and an arena with many uses.

THE RIG. honours Saudi Arabia's rich oil and gas legacy by taking inspiration from offshore oil rigs and providing a singular, remarkable experience that establishes the country as a must-visit worldwide destination.
