Red Sea Global achieves a significant milestone by completing the installation of the largest off-grid electric vehicle charging network in Saudi Arabia

Red Sea Global (RSG), the brains behind regenerative tourism destinations like Amaala and The Red Sea, has completed the installation of the largest off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in the country's pioneering move towards sustainable transportation. This network, which covers the first phase of the Red Sea tourist region, consists of more than 150 thoughtfully positioned charging stations. It is intended to support RSG's initial fleet of eighty electric vehicles, which includes Mercedes and Lucid models. This will guarantee that these high-end EVs are kept charged and ready to go on the roads.

For the duration of a guest's stay at The Red Sea, the usage of electric vehicles—such as Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Air—is reserved exclusively. When visitors arrive, depart, or move between the many resorts and amenities, these luxurious EVs will make their travel experiences smoother. These upscale electric vehicles will be available to visitors with reservations in advance or through on-demand services.

The necessary infrastructure for servicing, maintaining, and running the fleet is already in place. One such infrastructure is a mobility hub, which is expected to create 1,500 new opportunities in the areas of qualified technicians, EV charging specialists, chauffeurs, and hub managers. This programme is in line with RSG's mission to assist young Saudis in their communities and provide them with opportunity to succeed in emerging sectors.

The Red Sea tourist resort is headed towards being the largest in the world to run entirely on renewable energy, as part of the larger plan to attain carbon neutrality when fully operational. Phase one of the destination will be powered by five solar farms with 760,000 photovoltaic panels installed. This will cover the EV fleet and charging network.

Plans to deploy the first-ever fleet of carbon-neutral electric buses in Saudi Arabia for staff transportation at The Red Sea coincide with the announcement of this accomplishment. In addition, RSG is investigating eco-friendly transportation options for a range of vehicles, such as e-bikes, vans, lorries, ferries, yachts, airside vehicles, maintenance vehicles, and even off-road recreational vehicles.

Operational firsts, including the opening of The Red Sea International Airport and the availability of reservations for the first two hotels, signal significant strides towards the destination's completion in 2030 as The Red Sea opens to its first visitors this year. Across 22 islands and six inland locations, the ambitious plan calls for the construction of 50 resorts, up to 8,000 hotel rooms, over 1,000 residential units, opulent marinas, golf courses, entertainment venues, fine dining, and recreational amenities.
