Riyadh Theater Festival commemorates the late Saudi playwright Mohammed Al-Othaim for his pioneering theatrical contributions

News EventThe Riyadh Theatre Festival is paying tribute to the late Saudi writer Mohammed Al-Othaim for his groundbreaking contributions to theatre with an art display honouring his career and one of his plays, Along with the shields and honorifics that Al-Othaim earned over his career, the exhibition features a selection of his written, spoken, and poetry works.
A video detailing Al-biothaim's and his creative past will also be shown during the festival. In it, friends and colleagues of the artist will testify to his accomplishments, his professional beginnings, and his love of writing and theatre.
Al-Othaim developed a distinct intellectual, artistic, and cultural movement in the Kingdom over the previous 50 years. His dramatic works stand out due to the fact that they draw inspiration from mythologies and Arab, Islamic, and Saudi cultural heritage.
Al-Othaim was determined to show the audience only the greatest pieces throughout his artistic career, and he regarded theatre as a medium for showcasing his originality and creative writing. He spent a lot of time composing plays for the stage, presenting 45 of his successful pieces in 33 years. For the first Souk Okaz Festival, he was the first playwright.
With a lineup of shows to assist regional theatre companies, the festival seeks to energise and invigorate the Saudi theatrical scene. The event is being hosted at Princess Nourah University's conference centre in Riyadh and runs till December 24.
Along with plays presented by theatre companies from eight different locations, there will be workshops, lectures, and critical reading sessions. By assisting participants in advancing their careers and producing content that uplifts viewers and enhances the Saudi theatre landscape, the festival seeks to empower Saudi artists. Given the close historical links between the two nations, Tunisia is also taking part in the celebration.
In addition, the festival will give out prizes in eleven other categories, such as best theatrical music, best theatrical director, and best dramatic writing. The commission's goal in putting on this festival is to support the theatre industry in accordance with the National Strategy for Culture, which is a component of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
