The Saudi Supreme Court published a statement on Tuesday stating that the new Hijri year will begin on Wednesday. According to the highest court, Tuesday marks the end of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah 1444, and Wednesday marks the beginning of Muharram 1445 AH.
The announcement came after the Supreme Court's Crescent Department analysed information from several courts concerning sightings of the Muharram crescent on Monday evening. The Supreme Court ruled that the evidence for seeing the Muharram crescent was inconclusive, thus Tuesday will be the final day of Dhu al-Hijjah and Wednesday, 1/1/1445 AH according to the Umm Al-Qura calendar, equivalent to 7/19/2023 AD, will be the first day of the year 1445 AH.
