Saudi Arabia Railways sets record transporting over 13 million passengers across its networks

Over 13 million passengers were transported by Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) in 2024, setting new milestones and increasing by 22% over the previous year. Over 28 million tons of products and minerals were transported, representing a 15% increase in freight operations, which also saw notable growth. These accomplishments highlight how crucial SAR is to developing the Kingdom's railway industry, supporting the national economy, and improving logistical services.

The Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro Line made it easier to transport more than two million pilgrims during the 1445 AH Hajj season, reducing traffic and enhancing the pilgrimage experience. As more people choose to commute by rail, passenger train operations also increased, posting a 19% rise with over 35,000 trips.

Over two million truck trips were diverted from Saudi highways with SAR's freight operations, which were significant in sustainability initiatives. The environmental goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy were met by this change, which saved over 113 million liters of gasoline, decreased carbon emissions, and improved road conditions.

Saudi Arabia's reputation as a high-end travel destination was further cemented in 2024 with the introduction of the Dream of the Desert train, the first luxury rail experience of its sort in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In order to improve traffic safety and streamline railway operations, SAR also opened a new freight train route outside of Al-Ahsa's cities.

SAR reaffirmed its commitment to the highest operational standards by obtaining six international certifications in the areas of quality and safety. In order to inform the public about railway risks and the significance of protecting both public and private property, it also started a national railway safety awareness program.
