Saudi Arabia ranked first in 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth

More than 18,000 students from different educational levels competed in the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY), and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia placed first overall, outperforming 129 other countries. The Kingdom outperformed nations including the US, UK, Australia, India, Greece, Canada, and Singapore, winning 22 medals, including gold, silver, and bronze, in addition to special prizes. This remarkable feat demonstrates the Kingdom's prowess in data and artificial intelligence (AI) as well as its dedication to developing a bright future for AI technology.

The Kingdom won the most medals of any competing nation thanks to the 662 creative initiatives that 1,298 Saudi Arabian students presented throughout the tournament. The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), which has actively embraced and promoted the competition as a national project over the years, provided support for this outstanding accomplishment.

 The goal of SDAIA's work is to improve Saudi youth's capacity to acquire and use AI technologies to address practical issues. The program encourages students to investigate opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), comprehend the revolutionary influence of AI across diverse domains, and develop projects that address real-world problems.

Saudi Arabia took the lead with 22 medals, while the US came in second with 20. In the competition, Saudi children from elementary, middle, and high schools represented the Kingdom. AI-Generated Art, AI Large Language Model, AI-Generated Video, and AI Showcase were the four tracks in which they competed.
