King Salman Stadium's designs and plans for its sports facilities have been revealed by the Ministry of Sports and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. It is slated to be one of the biggest stadiums in the world for sports and will be the primary venue of the Saudi national team in addition to hosting important athletic events and activities.
The King Salman Stadium and its surrounds will be more than 660,000 square meters in size, with a range of amenities for various sports. The location will provide daytime access to commercial centres and leisure places suitable for all age groups, drawing tourists from both inside and beyond the Kingdom. There will be 92,000 seats available in the main stadium, including 150 seats in the royal box, 120 luxury suites, 300 VIP seats, and 2,200 seats for dignitaries.
The playing surface and spectator seats in the stadium will both have sustainable cooling systems. The top stadium interior will be surrounded by a variety of screens, which will improve the viewing experience. A walking trail with a breathtaking view of King Abdulaziz Park and inside gardens are also available to visitors, making for an amazing experience.
Situated near King Abdulaziz Park on King Salman Road in the northern region of Riyadh, the stadium has a prime position near important metropolitan landmarks including King Khalid International Airport. It is conveniently accessible from all areas of the city because to its excellent connections to the main road networks and Riyadh's train station.
A total of more than 360,000 square meters, or many adjacent sports facilities, are included in the King Salman Stadium master plan.
Two auxiliary training fields, fan zones, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an indoor sports hall, and an athletics track are some of the main features. There will also be outdoor courts for padel, basketball, and volleyball, supporting a range of sports for players of all ages. Around King Abdulaziz Park, a 9-kilometer sports route will connect all of these amenities.
Six multinational businesses submitted many designs for the stadium, which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2029. The design was chosen from among these proposals.
These plans were picked to adhere to FIFA regulations and maintain the highest levels of architectural brilliance and sustainability.
The final layout, which draws inspiration from the idea of hilly terrain, blends in well with King Abdulaziz Park by way of a valley that crosses over into the nearby green areas.
