Saudi National Center for Wildlife has hosted a symposium on the outcomes of the Red Sea Decade Expedition

A symposium on the findings of the Red Sea Decade Expedition, which conducted months of research into the habitat's biodiversity and undiscovered gems, was held at the Saudi National Centre for Wildlife. The Saudi minister of the environment, water, and agriculture, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, was present at the event, which took place in Riyadh on February 11 and 12. The multinational research vessel Ocean Explorer's crew presented the main conclusions of their two-day lecture on their study of the Red Sea.

The National Centre for Wildlife started the 126-researcher Red Sea Decade Expedition from the Islamic Port of Jeddah last year. The study carried out a comprehensive survey of hitherto uncharted territory, offering priceless insights into the Red Sea's biodiversity, marine life, and environmental features.

Together with notable projects like NEOM, AMAALA, and the Red Sea Project, as well as organisations like King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, King Abdulaziz University, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, the national vessel Al-Azizi accompanied the Ocean Explorer on its journey.

The seminar's lectures addressed a wide range of subjects, including "Shark Species in the Eastern Part of the Red Sea," "Volcanoes and Chimneys in the Deep Part of the Red Sea," "Human Waste Assessment on the Seabed in the Eastern Part of the Red Sea," and "Status and Biodiversity of Shallow and Deep Coral Reefs in the Red Sea."

The event was attended by a number of government representatives, scientists, environmentalists, and specialists in the subject of marine habitats from both domestic and foreign locations.

Carlos Duarte, a marine science professor at KAUST, gave the keynote address. Duarte's knowledge of conservation and marine science, together with his insightful observations, gave important details about the expedition's importance.

The center's symposium will help spread the word about how important it is to protect the ecosystem around the Red Sea, opening the door for more research and comprehension of marine species.
