The General Department of Traffic in Saudi Arabia has declared that, as of Sunday, October 1, 2023, the necessary arrangements have been made for the automatic monitoring of the breach of having no legal insurance for automobiles. In the case that a car does not have a valid insurance policy, the agency said that automated monitoring of the infraction will be done for all vehicles on the roads.
It urged all motorists—citizens and foreigners—to obey traffic laws and directions and to make sure their vehicles were insured in order to protect their rights in the case of an accident. It is notable that prior changes to the Traffic Law specified that failure to have legal car insurance constitutes a violation punishable by a minimum punishment of SR100 and a maximum fine of SR150.
