NewsThe Second Ring Road in the Jeddah Governorate was made open to motorized traffic by Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads General Authority. Eng. Badr Al-Dalami, the acting CEO of the Roads General Authority, was present during the inauguration ceremony.
Constructed at an overall cost of SR660 million, the road project included 50 crossings, five intersections, 11 bridges, and four lanes in each direction.
The 31-kilometer road that runs from King Faisal Road to the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Corridor on the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway will be operated by the authority, and the Jeddah Mayoralty will be in charge of the remaining 82 kilometers of the road.
After it is finished, this road project will link Jeddah's south to its north, making it one of the most important initiatives in the Makkah area. By moving the movement of trucks and heavy transport outside the city, it seeks to maintain pace with the efficient traffic movement in line with the population growth that the city is experiencing. In addition, the project aims to improve the region's transportation network, facilitate trade and logistics, and increase public safety.
In order to accomplish the strategic goals of the road sector, the Roads General Authority plans to: reach the sixth position in the global road quality index by 2030; reduce the number of traffic fatalities to fewer than five cases per 100,000 people; cover the road network with traffic safety factors in accordance with the International Road Assessment Program's (IRAP) classification; maintain an advanced level of services to meet the road network's capacity level; and increase the involvement of the private sector in operational work.
