Several initiatives aimed at minimizing food waste have been launched in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is organising a number of programmes targeted at reducing food waste. At a ceremony held in conjunction with the recent International Day of Zero Waste festivities in Riyadh, the strategic programmes of the Grace Preservation Foundation were revealed.

Majed Al-Hogail, the Saudi Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing, was present at the inaugural ceremony, along with other top officials and board members. The foundation's chairman, Al-Hogail, emphasised the need of educating people about the negative effects that food waste has on society, the environment, and the economy. He praised the foundation's dedication to creating novel approaches and enhancing stakeholder collaboration in order to advance sustainability objectives.

At the event, a quality mark to help food service businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, and wedding venues, minimise food waste was unveiled along with a national charter to decrease waste.

The Grace Preservation platform and app, which provides a range of services to groups in the food service sector and the society at large, was also introduced by officials. The platform's architecture supports and empowers sustainable growth in the food preservation industry by streamlining donations to the foundation's programmes.

The commercial sector will be encouraged to adopt sustainable methods for waste reduction and collaborate with relevant government agencies in formulating national policies to reduce food waste. Support will be given to food preservation groups through a variety of programmes.
