NewsSalman Al-Dosari, the Minister of Media and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Media Regulation (GAMR), unveiled the authority's identity and strategy on Monday in response to the Council of Ministers' decision to approve GAMR's establishment.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the authority's new plan aims to increase investment appeal and boost the productivity of its Saudi workforce while guiding the Kingdom's media industry towards a leadership position on a regional and global scale. Based on the media sector's crucial role and the belief that it holds many opportunities to diversify the national economy and boost the Kingdom's GDP outside of oil, the strategy seeks to increase the sector's contributions to GDP to SR47 billion by 2030.
Notably, the Council of Ministers adopted the new GAMR regulation in September of this year. As a result, the authority is now in charge of developing, regulating, and supervising the media industry. This includes maintaining the industry's infrastructure, modernising it, and increasing the GDP contribution of the media economy.
In order to keep up with the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030, this helps the media industry progress to be innovative and responsible in producing great, transparent, dependable information.
