The 45th UNESCO World Heritage Committee; Saudi Arabia, is hosting an extended session taking place from September 10 to 25

The 45th UNESCO World Heritage Committee's extended session will be held in Riyadh from September 10 to September 25, with Saudi Arabia hosting it as the organization's Chair. The World Heritage Committee will meet in person for the first time in four years at this historic occasion. Representatives from 21 governments are chosen by the General Assembly to serve on the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Implementing the World Heritage Convention, monitoring the use of the World Heritage Fund, choosing which sites should be included on the renowned World Heritage List, and administering the conservation activities of World Heritage Sites across the world are among its common tasks.

The election of Saudi Arabia as Chair of the 45th UNESCO World assets Committee and the honour of hosting the 45th extended session in Riyadh highlight the Kingdom's crucial role in promoting the preservation and conservation of cultural assets across the world. This perfectly complements the larger goals and aspirations of UNESCO.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee's deliberations got underway with an enthralling opening ceremony conducted in the iconic Al-Murabba Palace. The ceremony's theme, "Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow," shed light on how crucial it is to preserve and honour culture and legacy even as the globe advances and faces the difficulties of the future.

Saudi Arabia is praised for its extensive history and varied culture. Hegra Archaeological Site (al-Hijr), At-Turaif District in ad-Dir'iyah, Historic Jeddah, Rock Art in the Hail Region, Al-Ahsa Oasis, and Hima Cultural Area are only a few of the six UNESCO World Heritage Sites that the Kingdom now has. Also being considered for inscription at the Committee session this year is another Saudi Arabian site.

Saudi Arabia's hosting of this historic meeting of the UNESCO World history Committee is evidence of the country's dedication to the protection of history and culture across the world. It offers a rare chance for global cooperation in preserving our common human history.
