NewsThe US Green Building Council has certified the first phase of Diriyah's master plan as platinum level LEED for Cities. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accreditation, which is the world's most well known sustainability certification system, is a worldwide recognised emblem of sustainability, giving a framework for healthy, efficient, and cost-saving green buildings and communities.
LEED for Cities gives communities a globally uniform means to assess and communicate performance, paving the way for resilient, green, inclusive, and smart cities. Diriyah's certification is the first time a project in the Middle East has acquired the honour.
Diriyah's dedication to a smarter, more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive future is recognised by platinum certification, the highest level under the LEED system. The first phase of Diriyah's master plan includes an opulent, mixed-use development featuring entertainment, retail, cultural, commercial, and residential components.
These assets are based around significant public squares and open spaces, with SR63.2 billion ($17 billion) in projects under construction. With small streets and courtyards providing shade and amplifying favourable breezes, the project's urban shape supports a cooling microclimate. The first phase will be car-free, fostering a sustainable and pedestrianised public space.
