The Saudi International Handicrafts Week, titled "Banan"; highlights regional and global history passed down from generations

An exhibition of handicrafts in Riyadh is highlighting regional and global history passed down from one generation to the next. The Saudi International Handicrafts Week, titled "Banan," which translates to "fingers" in Arabic, is emphasizing the part of global crafts like carpentry, blacksmithing, weaving, and embroidery that fosters community. The event, which began on Tuesday, will continue at Riyadh Front through June 12.

Throughout the weeklong event, craft aficionados are invited to participate in hands-on workshops that bring together centuries' worth of collective heritage and tales from across the world.

Regina Velasco Marin and Alberto Lopez Gomez are showcasing traditional weaving, filigree design, and openwork embroidery methods utilizing already existent cotton fabrics, such as garments or curtains, in their native Mexico. On a backstrap loom, the cloth is undone and cotton threads are recycled to produce distinctive designs and wearable items.

The distinctive soil that distinguishes the governorate of Al-Qatif and imparts the light green colour in pottery production is highlighted in works of pottery by Zaki Al-Gharrash, a potter from the Eastern part of the Kingdom.
