NewsAccording to the General Department of Traffic (Muroor), only nationals of the nation where the licence was given are permitted to operate cars with non-Saudi number plates. In this respect, the department emphasised the necessity of closely adhering to the traffic restrictions and issued a warning that offenders would face harsh measures, such as fines and vehicle seizures.
All traffic police teams were asked to keep an eye on vehicles with non-Saudi licence plates to see if any were breaking any laws. This comes after a spike in the number of citizens driving automobiles with non-Saudi licence plates. The order was issued to curb the usage of non-Saudi licence plates on vehicles by some residents as a means of evading traffic laws and the Saher automated traffic monitoring system.
The Traffic Department stated that in order to protect both their safety and the safety of other road users, drivers must take great care to follow Saudi Arabian traffic instructions and regulations. The department also disclosed that the automatic monitoring system will keep an eye out for infractions from vehicles with non-Saudi number plates. It asked everyone visiting the Gulf and others to get in touch with the Traffic Department to learn more about the infractions that were committed and how to pay the fines.
The department had earlier requested that owners of cars with non-Saudi licence plates whose stay in the Kingdom had lasted more than six months from the date of arrival get in touch with the principal traffic departments in the relevant Saudi provinces to have their cars' statuses corrected. It further emphasised that owners of such cars must personally contact the primary regional traffic offices, provide proof of ownership, complete the necessary paperwork, and provide a clearing document for any outstanding debts in the nation where the vehicle is registered. The government issued a warning, stating that when the allotted time to rectify the condition of the cars expires, the owners and vehicles in violation will be subject to statutory fines.
