NewsMore than a hundred hikers and mountain climbers explored the local landscape and raised awareness of environmental issues during a two-day event hosted by the National Centre for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification in Jazan.
Part of Saudi Summer 2024, the "Walking in Nature's Embrace" project took place in Wadi Lajab National Park and the Al-Qahar mountains in Jazan's Al-Raith governorate. It completed on Sunday and is being held in other national parks around the Kingdom.
Trekkers followed approved trails that pass by historical sites and prehistoric rock inscriptions that date back thousands of years. They also participated in volunteer work and spread environmental awareness messages using QR codes they carried, all under the banner of "Naturally Beautiful."
The programme provided residents and tourists with a range of volunteer options, including as cleanup campaigns, environmental education, and tree maintenance in national parks. In addition to promoting environmentally responsible behaviour, the programmes were intended to increase community involvement.
