Grace period for payment of 50 percent reduction in accumulated traffic fines extended for another six months

On Thursday, the Ministry of Interior declared that the grace period for paying a six-month extension of a fifty percent reduction in accrued traffic penalties will be extended. According to the Saudi Press Agency, this is being done in accordance with orders from Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman as well as Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman. 

The highest authorities have mandated that the new grace period expire on April 18, 2025. The six-month grace period that had been originally declared ended on Friday, October 18, 2024, which is when the royal edict was issued.

The 50 percent reduction in traffic charges, which was announced on April 18, 2024, permits offenders to pay their fines in whole or in installments for each infraction. According to the earlier royal decree, the reduction applied to all infractions committed before April 18, 2024, and in order to qualify for the reduction, all accrued traffic penalties had to be paid within six months, from April 18 to October 18, 2024. 

By lowering fines for all infractions up to the day before the reduction period starts, this historic effort aims to lessen the financial burden on residents, foreign nationals, tourists, and GCC citizens.

The General Directorate of Traffic stated that the payment for traffic infractions occurs automatically through the SADAD payment system and the Efaa platform, but cautioned against interacting with any dubious connections, calls, or websites that purport to provide the service. 

To meet the needs of preserving traffic safety, the Ministry of Interior urged everyone using the roads to abide by the traffic laws.
