Hunter’s Supermoon graced Saudi Arabia's skies on Thursday

On Thursday, the Hunter's Supermoon appeared in Saudi Arabia's skies, capturing the attention of astronomy aficionados all throughout the Kingdom. The splendour of the full moon as it lit up the skies over the Asir area this evening was taken by the Saudi Press Agency's (SPA) camera.

This lunar phase, sometimes referred to as the harvest moon, is directly associated with the seasonal harvests of crops in the northern hemisphere. It is customarily observed in China in the middle of October, right before the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The Hunter's Moon, which appears in the sky to mark the beginning of the mid-autumn season and the approaching winter, causes animals to emerge from their burrows and gather food in the form of falling leaves.

This celestial event, which is positioned between the planets Saturn and Jupiter, offers astronomy fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see and photograph uncommon planetary configurations. The supermoon is predicted to arrive at its closest point to Earth at 11:26 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time), at which point it would seem 14% larger and become roughly 30% brighter than the typical full moon.

A supermoon happens on Thursday night when the moon, in its 27-day cycle, is full and at its perigee, or closest point to Earth, which is around 226,000 miles away.
