With the first-ever Esports World Cup held there over the last eight weeks, Riyadh emerged as the focal point of the worldwide esports’ scene. Attracting almost 500 teams and 1,500 professional players, this historic tournament was the largest in esports history, with a total prize pool of over $60 million.
With an astounding 5,665 points amassed over 12 tournaments—including first-place results in the "Call of Duty: Warzone" and "Free Fire" championships—the Falcons emerged victorious and won a total of $7 million in prize money. This triumph highlights the Kingdom's extraordinary aptitude in the esports industry.
An important turning point for the esports sector was reached as players, fans, publishers, and game developers from all around the world came together for the event.
In addition to showcasing the best teams in the world, the competition's innovative multi-game and multi-genre format advanced the global esports scene by promoting esports as a viable investment opportunity, highlighting its positive effects on communities, and fostering cultural exchange.
The Esports World Cup, with over two million people, broke attendance records and boosted Riyadh's visitor count by 29% during the event compared to the same period the year before.
During its eight-week duration, the event, which included over 32 side entertainment and cultural events, drew over 500 million people and over 250 million hours of viewing, setting a new world record for this year.
