Riyadh Airports Co. signs agreement to strive for net zero carbon emissions, aiming for sustainable aviation

In an effort to advance sustainable aviation, Riyadh Airports Co., the company in charge of managing and running King Khalid International Airport, has joined forces with Airports Council International Asia-Pacific and Middle East to pursue net zero carbon emissions by the year 2050. The agreement states that KKIA will be the first international airport to take part in the Net Zero Roadmap initiative in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

In addition to the Airport Carbon Accreditation, Net Zero Roadmap is an on-demand service that develops structured plans with suggestions, governance frameworks, and carbon footprint forecasts for various sectors such as assets, fuels, and operations.

The CEO of RAC, Ayman bin Abdulaziz AbuAbah, and the director-general of Airports Council International for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, Stefano Baronci, inked the agreement. The agreement establishes new benchmarks for environmentally friendly aviation procedures and emphasises KKIA's dedication to minimising its environmental impact. This bold action is in line with Saudi Arabia's larger Vision 2030 objectives, which prioritise environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

The onsite evaluation, which focusses on carefully assessing and analysing the unique site characteristics, is a crucial component of the agreement. In order to support educated decision-making in the next stages, this process include gathering data, speaking with specialists, and gaining a thorough awareness of the surroundings.
