Largest campaign to resettle more than 1,580 wild animals has been launched by the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU). This includes antelopes, gazelles, Arabian oryx and mountain ibex within three nature reserves in the governorate. This campaign is considered the largest of its kind for RCU, as it includes determining the readiness of the site, and monitoring the resettled animals, in addition to focusing on scientific studies during the preparations for the resettling campaign.
The commission will use a lightweight collar powered by solar energy for ungulate animals, for the first time in the region, as part of the campaign.
RCU confirmed that intensive monitoring will contribute to accelerating its research to measure the extent of the balance of the ecosystem, which will increase the efficiency of future campaigns. This will also contribute to improving the management of natural habitats for animals.
The commission's campaign comes in line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030,as well as the Saudi Green Initiative and the Green Middle East Initiative, with the aim of transforming AlUla into the largest living museum in the world while preserving its environmental and historical characteristics.
