Saudi Arabia’s road quality index has risen to 5.7, placing the Kingdom in fourth rank among the G20 countries

In a survey conducted by the Saudi Roads General Authority, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's road quality index increased to 5.7, ranking it fourth out of the G20. The assessment found that over 77 percent of Saudi Arabia's roadways adhere to safety requirements, up to 66 percent last year.

These performance outcomes were made public 500 days following the Kingdom's introduction of the Roads Sector Strategy, which prioritises quality, safety, and traffic density. The strategy was developed in light of the Kingdom's role in organising and managing the sector by establishing the relevant rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Based on its indications, the Roads General Authority has conducted the world's largest survey. The authorities have also accomplished a great deal and carried out several projects aimed at improving road condition and traffic safety.

The organisation has set up a road safety data centre to gather and examine accident-related data and create efficient plans and initiatives to reduce the number of accidents. Additionally, it has opened a regional office for the International Road Assessment Program (IRAP) to promote global collaboration in the field of traffic safety.

Along with creating an advanced system for managing bridges, precisely monitoring the quality of their infrastructure, and projecting the necessary repairs to improve user safety, the authority also changed road maintenance contracts into performance-based contracts in an effort to improve the calibre of work.

Achieving the sixth worldwide ranking in the road quality index and lowering the number of road fatalities to less than five instances per 100,000 people are two goals the authority hopes to accomplish in order to improve road safety and preparedness and meet the goals of the road sector plan. Aside from preserving an advanced level of services for the road network's capacity, it also seeks to cover the road network with traffic safety aspects in accordance with the IRAP classification and raise the private sector's operational work involvement to 20%.
