Saudi Film Commission launched the ‘Film Deposit’ initiative on Thursday

The National Film Archive's "Film Deposit" program was introduced by the Saudi Film Commission on Thursday. The initiative's goal, according to a news release from the commission, is to gather and archive Saudi films in order to protect and guarantee their sustainability for upcoming generations. The aim is to compile Saudi movies from different producers and distributors, store them safely, and maintain them at a predetermined location. In addition, it seeks to capture the cultural and creative facets of Saudi Arabian cinema and record its history.

The commission states that the "Film Deposit" initiative started with the creation of the Saudi Film Registry, which has information on over 1,000 films, including long and short documentaries and feature films. The Saudi Film Registry has also established the highest standards and guidelines for film deposits, guaranteeing that the submitting entities' intellectual and literary property rights are respected.

Three avenues are provided by the effort to guarantee the representation and preservation of the nation's cultural heritage: public availability for wider access, research access for scholarly study, and secure storage for deposits. These pathways of accessibility are intended to pique the interest of scholars, moviegoers, and the general public.
