A major annual Saudi book fair celebrating various aspects of culture, including camels, which are deeply rooted in the country's heritage, opened Thursday in the coastal city of Jeddah.
Running until December 21, the latest Jeddah Book Fair features the participation of 1,000 local and international publishing houses from 22 countries, spread across more than 450 pavilions.
"The Jeddah Fair is part of the series of book fairs in the kingdom, reflecting the progress of Saudi Arabia's cultural landscape and the publishing industry. It demonstrates that the Saudi market has become an attractive hub for Arab and international publishing houses," said Mohammed Alwan, head of the Saudi Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission, which organizes the event.
This year’s fair includes over 100 activities, such as lectures, seminars, and workshops, hosted by more than 170 experts from both within and outside the kingdom.
