The Diriyah Gate Development Authority inaugurated a mosque design competition on Sunday, allowing bright young Saudi architects a chance to demonstrate their abilities and contribute to the city's architectural scene. According to the Saudi Press Agency, Saudi students can construct two mosques in the Najdi architectural style utilising traditional building techniques and materials from the region, either individually or in groups of three to five. The DGDA also encourages contestants to include sustainable building methods in their ideas.
A special committee will choose the top ten entries that best represent Diriyah's spirit and rich cultural history. These submissions will then be assessed by a jury of experts from the public and commercial sectors. In acknowledgment of their accomplishments, the committee will choose the three best competitors and offer them money rewards.
The competition is in line with the authority's aim to enhance the abilities of young engineering talents while also motivating them to pursue new solutions that would convert Diriyah into a worldwide tourism destination. Registration is open till July 25th.
