The Italian carrier ITA is scheduled to start operating regular flights between Riyadh and Rome, according to a new aviation milestone announced by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) on Tuesday. The airline will boost air connection between Saudi Arabia and Italy by launching five weekly flights in June.
This move fits into Saudi Arabia's ongoing "Vision 2030" initiative to position the Kingdom as a hub for international logistics. The goal of starting frequent flights is to make travel easier and promote cultural and economic contacts between the two countries.
The improved aviation connections follow several months of a favorable evaluation by an Italian team headed by the Italian Commercial Attaché. During their November visit, the delegation expressed admiration for Saudi Arabia's potential in the aviation sector and the ambitious plans of the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation.
The group also stressed the need for more collaboration and partnership, since they are thought to be essential for facilitating the major changes that Saudi Arabia's aviation and air navigation systems are undergoing.
