King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve has been granted accreditation as “the first major biodiversity site in the Kingdom”

The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve in Saudi Arabia has received recognition as “the first major biodiversity site in the Kingdom,”

Following an assessment using international criteria, Key Biodiversity Areas verified the accreditation on its website on Wednesday. It stated that the reserve is eligible for inclusion since it satisfies three worldwide standards, one of which is the presence of endangered species. The statement was made on May 22, the day of the annual International Day for Biological Diversity.

As part of its efforts to maintain biological diversity worldwide, KBA monitors and preserves authorized locations of considerable value, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve Development Authority oversees the management of the Saudi reserve. Its objectives include safeguarding threatened species, enhancing natural habitats, increasing public knowledge of environmental issues, and lowering threats to the region from both the environment and humans. With a total area of 130,700 square kilometers, it is regarded as the largest natural reserve in the Middle East.
