The penalties for disregarding traffic regulations regarding making way for ambulances have been made public by the General Directorate of Traffic (Muroor).
The Muroor emphasised the significance of providing priority to ambulances on the road, noting that failing to do so constitutes a traffic violation punishable by a fine of between SR1,000 and SR2,000.
Making room for ambulances is essential, as the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) emphasised previously, as doing so will help save many lives.
The authority clarified the steps that the drivers must take if an ambulance is around them, noting that in the event that the traffic and roads are free, then they must give way to the left lane.
In situations where the road has two lanes, drivers must give way in the middle of the road by moving to the far right or far left.
The right and centre lanes, however, must move to the far right, and the vehicles in the left lane, to the far left, if the road has three lanes or more.
The SRCA, in collaboration with the Muroor, recently declared the release of an app for automatic monitoring and recording of violations related to obstructing the movement of ambulances by failing to yield to them. The app started monitoring traffic on Sunday, March 26, and it will capture, among other infractions, drivers who follow the route of rushing ambulances.
