NewsA two-day nationwide consultation workshop on the status of Saudi Arabia's environment and anticipated future changes closed on Thursday. The UN and the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture coordinated the Riyadh event. Osama Faqiha, the Kingdom's undersecretary for environmental affairs, and Sami Demasi, the UN Environment Program's regional representative, were among the attendees.
The workshop's objectives were to address the report's goals, offer trustworthy, current information about the Kingdom's environmental situation and associated trends, assess the efficacy of national policies, practices, and initiatives for environmental protection and management, pinpoint opportunities and gaps in knowledge, and offer creative yet doable suggestions and solutions to enhance the environment and advance sustainable development.
In addition, participants looked at how to better engage all parties involved in environmental concerns and raise their level of knowledge and education, as well as how this may help the Kingdom realise its Vision 2030 agenda's development objectives.
The workshop examined environmental databases and indicators gathered over the previous five years, which aided in the creation of environmental data to assist pinpoint issues related to climate change and the difficulties encountered in enhancing the environment. It also examined the most recent scientific findings that may be crucial in addressing the problems and getting over barriers associated with climate change. These breakthroughs may assist find answers and realise the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
