One of the longest in the Middle East - the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road Tunnel open to vehicles from February 29

The Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Tunnel's completion was declared by the King Salman Park Foundation Board of Directors. This important development is expected to improve traffic flow and lessen congestion in Riyadh. First announced on March 19, 2019, this tunnel is an important part of the massive development efforts headed by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz and the Crown Prince. It is the first tunnel to be finished since the start of the King Salman Park project in the third quarter of 2021.

One of the longest road tunnels in the Middle East, the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road Tunnel stretches 2,430 metres from north to south beneath King Salman Park. Its completion is evidence of the significant infrastructural development that is taking place, including the building of several tunnels on Al-Oruba Road. To be more precise, a new 1,590-meter tunnel will connect to the 840-meter tunnel that now runs along Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road, forming a single, streamlined route for car traffic.

King Salman Park promises new lifestyle alternatives that improve the quality of life and provide unforgettable experiences, making it a crucial destination for citizens, residents, and visitors alike. This is because the park offers a varied variety of activities and services. The tunnel will open to traffic on Thursday, February 29, 2024, with three lanes in each direction plus an emergency lane. All lanes will be outfitted with cutting-edge safety and traffic management technology, as well as emergency services and evacuation routes.

Salmani architecture served as the inspiration for the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road Tunnel's architectural layout. With interior designs that resemble the city's rock formations, it blends in perfectly with Riyadh's natural and geological beauty. A dedication to ecological and aesthetic concerns is demonstrated by the use of environmentally friendly colours and sustainable materials that blend in with the surrounding landscape.

With a total size of more than 16 square kilometres, King Salman Park is positioned to greatly improve Riyadh's standing internationally and place the city among the most livable in the world. Along with the most green area in all of Riyadh, the park will have a variety of commercial, residential, recreational, sporting, cultural, and artistic amenities. Highlights include the Visitor Pavilion, the Royal Arts Complex, and other museums, which together redefine what it means to visit an urban park in the area.
