The AlUla Falcons Cup, which is hosted by the Saudi Falcons Club and the Royal Commission for AlUla, is accessible to Al-Mazayen athletes as of Tuesday. The event takes place in Mughira Heritage Sports Village in the historic city and runs through Friday.
Falconers who would like to register their birds for the cup's fourth track for locals can do so Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The tournament has a total prize pool of SR60 million ($16 million), making it the largest of its type in the world. Each of the contest's six categories will have six rounds, with SR10.2 million going to the overall winner.
In the meantime, a group of twenty-seven cyclists from AlUla Sports Club travelled almost thirty km by car to the Falcons Cup headquarters. Falconers and Falcons Cup guests were introduced to cycling and its advantages in boosting heart health and muscular flexibility. In exchange, they heard about the history and legacy of falconry in Saudi Arabia, an ancestor sport steeped in tradition.
They also gave information on the cycling races that would take place in the region this year, such as the AlUla Tour, which is the only race in the Kingdom that is scheduled on the International Cycling Union's calendar. As part of its vision and strategy for the sports sector, which involves the creation of initiatives meant to enhance quality of life and participation in sport, the Royal Commission for AlUla has constructed 45 km of cycling lanes.
