NewsBeginning Sunday, June 4, Saudi Arabia will implement automated surveillance of seven traffic infractions. Lt. Gen. Muhammad Al Bassami, director general of Public Security, made this announcement.
The computerised automation of seven traffic offences was launched by Al Bassami on Monday.
These infractions include driving on sidewalks or pedestrian paths where driving is prohibited, failing to use the proper lighting while driving at night or in poor visibility conditions, and failing to keep trucks and other large vehicles in the right lane on multi-lane roads.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, additional violations that are automatically monitored include driving a vehicle with unclear or damaged licence plates, avoiding the station that weighs and measures the dimensions of transport vehicles, and parking the vehicle in areas that are not designated for the same.
These infractions will be monitored by the General Traffic Department and the Special Forces for Road Security. The purpose of this is to improve traffic control and safety while reducing undesired behaviour on public roadways both within and outside of cities around the Kingdom.
