Saudi Arabia’s RGA has started an advanced research study to evaluate the performance of asphalt layers

The Roads General Authority (RGA) of Saudi Arabia has initiated a cutting-edge research project to assess the effectiveness of asphalt layers and the utilization of materials recovered from building demolition sites in road construction.

The research aims to improve environmental sustainability, protect natural resource availability, increase expenditure effectiveness, and manage expenses.

In addition to asphalt mixes that are produced and tested in the lab for examination, researchers also received treated gravel from demolition sites and specialized environmental dumps. After that, the research will put experimental road segments in place.

By utilizing specialized sensors to track the resistance and effectiveness of the parts during the tests, the RGA will evaluate the experiment's success. The heavy traffic load simulator, the first of its type to be utilized in the Middle East for simulating climatic and traffic loads, will be used to assess the effectiveness of the experimental portions.

It will take a year to complete the assessment work in the first phase, during which time it will be examined, evaluated, and its findings and recommendations examined.

The authority is trying to put into action a series of research projects and scientific investigations intended to encourage innovation in the road industry and improve road services. The RGA, a regulatory body under the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, is in charge of regulating the building, use, and upkeep of roads throughout the nation.
