NewsSaudi authorities presented their goals and projects for sustainability and environmental preservation during the first day of the 9th Our Ocean Conference in Athens. According to the Saudi Press Agency, delegates to this year's event, which has as its theme "Our Ocean: An Ocean of Potential," include activists and professionals in the field of marine habitats in addition to representatives of businesses and governments.
They are talking about things like marine protected areas, blue economies that are sustainable, maritime security, the connection between climate change and the oceans, sustainable fishing methods, and measures to stop marine pollution.
The conference will also cover green shipping, the green transition in the Mediterranean, measures to reduce plastic and microplastic contamination in marine habitats, and sustainable tourism in coastal and island locations.
Mohammed Qurban, Chief Executive Officer of the National Center for Wildlife, is leading the Saudi delegation to the two-day event. The conference focused on the Kingdom's measures aimed at safeguarding seas and other water resources, as well as the sustainable use of marine resources.
He continued by saying that involvement in events like the Our Ocean Conference fosters the priceless knowledge exchange, idea sharing, and teamwork in the development of creative solutions to environmental problems and the advancement of sustainable practices.
Participants have announced 2,160 commitments worth $130 billion over the course of the conference's eight previous sessions since it was started in 2014 by the US to address a gap in global ocean governance at the time, according to organizers.
