NewsThe official emblem for the Kingdom's scientific mission to the International Space Station (ISS) was released by the Saudi Space Commission on Monday. Rayana Bernawi, the first Saudi and Arab Muslim woman astronaut, and Ali Al-Qarni, the first Saudi astronaut to reach the International Space Station, will be on board the mission.
The Kingdom's scientific mission is focused on empowering people, preserving the environment, and expanding horizons through research that the astronauts will do in the areas of health and environmental sustainability, and the logo represents these lofty aspirations. The crew's official outfit will display the logo. Before the crew departs the planet Earth for space, every space mission is required to have an official logo.
The Kingdom's flag is featured in the logo, which has a circular form and represents the identity of the Saudi astronauts while also expressing the heritage, history, cultural distinctiveness, and traditions of the Kingdom. The drawn sword is one of the representations of the genuine and ancient Saudi heritage that confirms firmness in administering justice. This is reflected in the logo through the green flag, which symbolises the banner of Islam, the white colour, which is the symbol of purity and on which the two Shahadahs (Islamic testimony) were written, and the white colour.
To realise the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to highlight the Kingdom's position in the space sector and its technologies, the mission's logo emphasises the Kingdom's aspirations and commitment to support space exploration efforts and strengthen the role of Saudi citizens in space programmes.
