06 Jun 2024
NewsNamour, a character created by the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) to encourage young Saudis to be environmental heroes, has just been unveiled. Namour derives its name from the Arabic term for Arabian leopard, Nimr. It represents Saudi Arabia's dedication to environmental preservation and sustainability. Namour is a sign of strength, power, and elegance.
Namour emphasises the value of cooperation amongst all sectors and generations and is in line with Saudi Arabia's concept of tackling environmental issues as a complete community. SGI is introducing this figure in an effort to inspire Saudi youth to actively save the environment and biodiversity.
With support from the Ministry of Education, SGI will use Namour's presence in classrooms and online to encourage kids and young people in the Kingdom to take an environmental stance. Through innovative tools and motivation to encourage learning and involvement about climate change and sustainability, this joint endeavour will guarantee that Namour acts as an ally for educators and parents.
Namour also seeks to increase public awareness of the urgent need for conservation efforts and the highly endangered situation of the Arabian leopard. It draws attention to Saudi Arabia's significant conservation efforts for this species, which include breeding programmes and rewilding projects. Furthermore, in Saudi Arabia's expanding natural reserves, over 1,660 endangered species of animals have been reintroduced under SGI. These comprise the Nubian ibex, the Arabian sand gazelles, and the Arabian oryx.
